#LS1 - Unspoken Chemistry Ignited
Written by: Gregg Parker
Jeamie and I met 5 and half years ago. I was working for a magazine and she for BMG Music. One fine afternoon she invited me to join her salsa class. Begrudgingly, I informed my girlfriend (at the time) about the class and next minute we were dancers.
For the next 5 years, Jeamie and I fleeted through each others’ lives. There was a two year period where we lost communication altogether except for the odd coffee or text message. It wasn’t until I moved back to PJ in January 2007, that I decided to rejoin salsa and get back in contact with Jeamie.
On the contrary to what Jeamie preaches today, there was an unspoken chemistry between us five years ago that was never truly nurtured. Now I was back into Salsa, I had plans to kick start the nurturing big time! Sadly, as with most things, when you aren’t focused, you ultimately lose sight of your goal. I was unfocused and not fully committed to forging a relationship with Jeamie. Looking back, I remember Jeamie wanting me to win her affection. At that time my pride and ego would not allow anyone to interrupt the love-hate relationship I had with myself! Subsequently, my plans fell apart and Jeamie found someone else to while away the hours with.
The rest of the year went from bad to worse and I ended up feeling miserable and without purpose. One evening I dropped Jeamie off at home after an evening’s salsa. She noticed I had something on my mind, and then right there in the little ‘Kancilrari’ I spilled my beans – all of them! Jeamie had already done Money & You and so she was able to provide excellent support and understanding when I needed it the most. That night I found someone who had created a comfortable space for me to offload all my fears, concerns and worries. What I didn’t realize at the time was that night was the turning point in our relationship.
That evening was the dawn of a new era. After plenty of coaching, and bit of pushing and shoving Jeamie convinced me to attend Money & You. Over the duration of the programme Jeamie and I managed to find the time to share a lot of our feelings with each other. It felt natural and very comfortable. I found out new things about Jeamie that opened my eyes to see a different woman standing before me. This wasn’t the Jeamie that taught dancing three times a week, this was a different woman altogether. Granted, she looked the same but this time I felt a connection. Money and You created a safe space for me to share my feelings with Jeamie. I managed to reach inside myself and re-evaluate who I am, where I am going and who I want to take on the journey with me.
I asked Jeamie to be my girlfriend at KFC in PJ State on 5th June 2008. She was facing the fat fryer and I the window. I know not exactly romantic but it worked and now we have been together for 8 months. Ever since then, our relationship has gone from strength to strength.
Money & You was the catalyst that kick started my reconditioning! I am learning that it’s ok to show my vulnerabilities without fear of reprisal or judgment. Sometimes, Jeamie and I catch ourselves wanting to hold back our feelings but then we remember to work the principles that Money & You has taught us both. With previous relationships I chose to be scared, nervous and anxious about commitment. With Jeamie, I find myself embracing it.
Being in the knowledge that the woman who stands before you, is the woman you will spend the rest of your life with, is a life enriching experience in its own right! Jeamie and I are building the foundations of a great relationship. I have found a life partner and a best friend. She is someone I can confide in and share the highs and the lows. We are helping each other find the way whilst correcting our trajectory as we go. In the process, we are building a future together.
This is a love story but one that’s only just begun. I hope you stay around and see the rest of the story unfold…..
